Man in custody after barricade incident in Zetland

A man is under guard at hospital after a barricade situation in Zetland overnight, NSW Police say.

Police were called to a unit on Grandstand Parade, about 9pm today, responding to reports of a domestic incident.

Officers from Redfern Local Area Command arrived to find a man inside the home, allegedly armed with knives.

A woman and teenage child, who had left the home prior, were uninjured.

The man hid inside the unit and threatened officers.

A perimeter was established and specialist police were called to the scene to assist.

About 11.40pm, a man was taken into police custody and a number of knives secured.

The 35-year-old man was taken to Redfern Police Station before being taken to hospital under police guard, where he remains.

Inquiries are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
