Man in custody after eight-hour barricade near Cessnock, NSW

A man is in custody after a barricade situation in the Hunter region overnight, NSW Police say.

Police were called to a home on Murrays Run Road at Laguna, 50km south-west of Cessnock, about 10pm today, responding to reports of shots being fired.

Officers from Central Hunter Local Area Command arrived to find a man inside the home, allegedly armed with a firearm.

A perimeter was established and specialist police were called to the scene to assist.

About 6.30am (10 May 2017), a man was taken into police custody and a number of firearms secured.

A woman, who is believed to have been in the home, is assisting police.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Inquiries are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
