Man in custody after stand-off with police at Chatswood, NSW

Shortly before 6:30am today, emergency services were called to Brown Street, Chatswood, and found a woman – believed to aged in her 30s – deceased.

About 40 minutes later, police saw a man lying on an awning above a 27th-floor balcony.

About 7.20pm – more than 12 hours after the man was first seen – he was arrested by officers attached to the NSW Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit.

The man has been taken to Royal North Shore Hospital as a precaution, and remains there under police guard.

It’s believed he is also aged in his 30s.

An investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death; however, police are investigating the likelihood this is a domestic-violence related incident.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the coroner.
