Man in custody assisting with police inquiries into Hobart CBD Armed Robbery, TAS

A 23-year-old Hobart man is in police custody assisting with inquiries in relation to an Armed Robbery committed at a Hobart CBD pharmacy last night, Tasmania Police say.

Around 5.30pm yesterday, police responded to a report of a man entering the ChemMart Pharmacy on the corner of Liverpool and Criterion Streets, threatening staff members with a knife and demanding prescription medication. Staff members complied with the offender’s demands and he then fled the premises.

Police immediately searched the area and located a man matching the description given by witnesses, and in possession of a quantity of prescription medication.

The man was taken into police custody.

At this stage no formal charges have been laid and the police investigation is ongoing.

The staff members were not physically injured during the incident.
