Man injured after hit and run crash at Townsville

A 70-year-old Heatley man was injured after he was struck by a stolen vehicle in Townsville this morning (April 4).

The man, and his 70-year-old wife were walking along Stokes Street at around 8.50am when the vehicle pulled up near them.

A male youth walked up to the woman grabbing her handbag before running over to the stolen vehicle, with the woman's husband following him.

The man was struck by the vehicle and knocked to the ground as it accelerated away. He sustained a non-life-threatening injury to his head and grazes to his body. The woman also sustained grazing to her arm. Both were transported to hospital.

The stolen vehicle was located abandoned soon after in Tuffley Street, West End. It had been stolen from a West End property sometime overnight of April 1 and 2.

Police patrols of the area failed to locate the occupants of the stolen vehicle, with preliminary information indicating they were teenage males.

Anyone with any information, or who may have witnessed the incidents and have not yet spoken to police, are urged to do so.
