Man injured during assault in Sydney

A man remains in hospital after being assaulted in Sydney’s CBD overnight, NSW Police say.

About 3.15am tomorrow, a 19-year-old man was walking with a group of up to nine people through Martin Place.

A fight broke out among the group as they moved between Castlereagh and Elizabeth Streets and the 19-year-old man was punched several times.

When he fell to the ground he was kicked by a member of the group.

The offenders were seen to flee from the area and entered a taxi which travelled south along Pitt Street.

Emergency services were contacted and the injured man was treated by Ambulance paramedics for a facial laceration and a head injury before he was transported to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Police from Sydney City Local Area Command attended and continue with their inquiries into the incident.

Investigators have reviewed CCTV footage and believe the group were known to each other.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police immediately.
