Man Injured in Sydney Theft Attempt and Fall

An investigation is underway after an attempted stealing and subsequent fall in the Sydney CBD.

About 4:25pm yesterday (Thursday 17 July 2025) a 29-year-old man, entered a store on the corner of Pitt Street and Market Street, Sydney.

The man tried on a pair of shoes and, a short time later, ran from the store without paying for the shoes.

The man was chased by a staff member into a shopping mall, when he jumped a railing and fell approximately six metres.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics attended the scene.

The man was treated by paramedics for a serious head injury. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Inquiries are continuing into the incident and any witnesses are urged to come forward and contact local police and Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
