Man jumps onto train tracks in Wollongong

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a man was injured in Wollongong, NSW police said.

Police were called to Coniston Railway Station just after 10am on Monday, after concerns were raised about a man walking along the tracks.

Officers from Wollongong Local Area Command attended and approached the man; however, he ran from them before they were able to complete their inquiries.

A short time later the man ran up an embankment and onto a rail overpass before jumping onto the tracks.

The 34-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A critical incident team will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.
