One man has died, and another is in custody following an alleged stabbing in the state's New England region this evening.
About 6pm (Sunday 8 March 2026), emergency services were called to a campsite off Danglemah Road, Woolbrook, about 66km northeast of Tamworth, following reports of a stabbing.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended and were told two men were involved in an altercation before one of the men was allegedly stabbed several times in the chest and neck.
The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.
He is yet to be formally identified; however, is believed to be aged in his 50s.
The other man – aged 43 – was uninjured.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to Tamworth Police Station.
Police have established a crime scene and Oxley detectives have commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following an initial search of the scene police have located and seized a knife believed to have been used in the incident.
Investigations continue.
