Man remains in critical condition after losing leg in white shark attack

An Australian man who had his leg bitten off by a white shark on South Australia's west coast while surfing remains in a critical condition in intensive care at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Christofer Blowes, 26, was attacked 350 metres offshore by a shark at Fishery Bay on Saturday.

Other surfers rescued Christofer from the water, who was taken to Port Lincoln hospital, and then airlifted to Adelaide Hospital for further treatment.

In a statement released by the hospital, his family said they were grateful for the community support “at this very traumatic time”.

“Currently our sole focus is on our unified, unconditional support and belief towards Christopher’s big fight he has ahead, and we ask that our privacy in being able to provide that is respected at this time”, the family said in the statement.

On Monday the state government said there is no plan to expand shark cage diving in the area.

The opposition also agreed there is no need to boost shark cage diving due to its increased risk to other divers and surfers.
