Man seriously assaulted near Lake Macquarie, NSW

A man has been hospitalised following an assault near Lake Macquarie yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 10.30pm tomorrow, a 49-year-old man was at a home on Egret Close, Bonnells Bay, when he went outside and was confronted by three men.

Police have been told one of the men armed with an extendable baton, assaulted him, causing him to fall to the ground.

He was further assaulted on the ground by the other men, before the trio left in a white sedan.

The injured man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital with arm, neck and facial injuries.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

As part of their inquiries, police would like to speak to three men, described only as being of a large build, who may be able to assist them.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
