Man sought after taxi driver assaulted in Albury

Police have appealed to the public for information after a taxi driver was assaulted in Albury overnight, NSW Police say.

About 8.40pm on Monday 20 November 2017 a 36-year-old man was sitting in his taxi at the rank on Olive Street.

A man entered the taxi and asked to be taken to Nathan Avenue.

Upon arrival the driver stopped the cab and was grabbed by the passenger around the neck.

The passenger produced a knife and slashed the left side of the driver’s face causing a 10cm superficial laceration.

The offender fled from the taxi on foot and the driver contacted emergency services.

The man was treated at the scene by Ambulance paramedics.

Officers from Albury Local Area Command established a crime scene and commenced a search of the area.

The offender has only been described to police as being approximately 30-years-old.

Police will seize CCTV from the taxi as part of their investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police immediately.
