Man stabbed in Maitland

A man has been charged over a stabbing in Maitland, NSW Police say.

About 5pm yesterday, a 52-year-old man and a 46-year-old man, who are known to each other, became involved in an altercation in a shopping centre on Church Street, Maitland.

During the altercation, the younger man allegedly produced a folding knife and inflicted two wounds to the older man’s chest.

The 52-year-old man was taken to John Hunter Hospital by ambulance paramedics for further treatment. His condition is not yet known.

Police from Central Hunter Local Area Command attended and arrested the 46-year-old man in a nearby street.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding.

He was bail refused to appear at Maitland Local Court today.
