Man stabbed, kicked, punched in Walgett assault

Inquiries are underway after a man was stabbed, kicked then punched in the face during a fight in a northern NSW town overnight.

Emergency services were called to Duff Street, Walgett, shortly after 7.30pm (Friday 19 February 2021), where a 24-year-old man was found with multiple injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for stab wounds to the head and shoulder, before being taken to the Walgett Multipurpose Centre.

The Walgett man was airlifted by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) to Dubbo Base Hospital for further treatment.

Police have been advised the man has since been transferred to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown, where he is reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from Central North Police District established a crime scene and conducted a canvass of the area.
