Man, teenager charged with car thefts, police pursuits in Maitland

A man and a teenage boy have been arrested and charged with a number of offences, including alleged car thefts, police pursuits and drugs, NSW Police say.

About 3am yesterday, officers detected a stolen vehicle travelling in Maitland and initiated a pursuit before it was terminated by police.

About 7am, police saw three young individuals near a service station on the New England Highway, Rutherford.

Police spoke to the three individuals and determined they were involved in the previous pursuit.

They were arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station where a 20-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy were charged with two alleged separate car thefts, police pursuits, property, driving and drug offences and were bail refused.

The 20-year-old will face Maitland Bail Court today and the 15-year-old boy will face Parramatta Children’s Court also today.

The third teenager, a 16-year-old boy, will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
