Man to appear in court over drug importation in Kempsey

A man will appear in court today charged over the alleged importation and supply of a prohibited drug in the Kempsey area, NSW Police say.

In an ongoing investigation focusing on the illegal importation of MDMA, officers from Mid North Coast Local Area Command, together with Australian Federal Police and the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, arrested a 22year-old man yesterday.

Officers attended an address in Clyde Street, Kempsey, about 11.20am yesterday, where the man was taken into custody.

It will be alleged the man purchased the drugs over the internet which were then imported into Australia via international mail.

During a search of the man’s home officers allegedly seized 794grms of MDMA along with a substantial amount of cash.

He was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with importing a border controlled drug (x5), supply prohibited drug and deal with the proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail and will appear in Port Macquarie Local Court today.
