Man to be extradited over serious deception charges, South Australia

A man will face court after an investigation into serious deception offences.

Detectives from the Major Fraud Investigation Section have today travelled to Melbourne to extradite a 61-year-old man who was arrested yesterday by Victoria Police.

Detectives working in conjunction with Consumer and Business Services, identified a group of travelling international itinerants who have been traversing Australia targeting the elderly and vulnerable into paying for non-existent home repairs or engaging in substandard work without valid work visas or any building qualifications.

Police will allege on one occasion the man carried out unnecessary repairs during August and September last year on an elderly woman's house for which she paid over $1000,000.

The man will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow on a charge of deception.
