Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident at Glen Waverley Railway Station on 28 November, Victoria Police say.
It is believed a 13-year-old was waiting at the station when she was approached by an unknown male about 3.40pm.
The man, described as in his mid-30s, had a short conversation with the girl and then gestured her to go with him.
The girl moved away from the man and it is understood he then loitered in the area for some time before leaving.
Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released images of a man who may be able to assist with their enquiries.
He is described as of Indian sub-continental appearance with an olive complexion, medium build and had short dark hair with a moustache and goatee.
The investigation is ongoing.
