Man in court after shot fired outside Lake Illawarra Police Station, NSW

A man has been charged after discharging a firearm outside Lake Illawarra Police Station overnight.

About 9.10pm (Thursday 4 January 2018), a car pulled up outside Lake Illawarra Police Station on Pioneer Drive.

A man got out and allegedly fired a shot into the air, before placing the firearm back in the car, which is believed to have been driven away by an unknown person.

The man who discharged the firearm walked into Lake Illawarra Police Station and was arrested.

He was taken to Shellharbour Hospital before being discharged into police custody, where he remains.


The 29-year-old man was charged with fire firearm in or near public place, and possess unauthorised firearm; he has been refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 5 January 2018).


About 3.30am today, the vehicle was located in Wollongong and seized by police.

No injuries have been reported to police and inquiries are continuing.
