What is the fire danger period?
Fire restrictions are in force during the fire danger period. This means you cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements. The fire danger period also sets restrictions on activities that use or may cause fire, such as welding, barbecuing, and mowing.
The fire danger period is declared by the Country Fire Authority (CFA) for each local government area during periods of increased fire risk. It depends on the amount of rain, the grassland curing rate, and other local conditions. These restrictions help prevent fires from starting.
What changes when the fire danger period ends?
Our Local Law does not allow fires to be lit during the fire danger period. After it ends, the Local Law sets out conditions for lighting fires.
