Council has received excellent news from the Longwood Berrys Lane Fire Incident Control Centre.

From 9.00 am on Thursday 29 January 2026, the Maroondah Highway and Goulburn Valley Highway will re-open, and traffic management points will no longer be in operation.

Murrindindi Shire is now starting to welcome back visitors to come and see us and support the local community, but we ask that you travel with respect and consideration for those who have been impacted by the fires.

We kindly request that you drive safely and responsibly through the bushfire impacted zones. Follow signage along the roads and do not try to access side roads that remain open only to the emergency services and local residents. Visit the VicTraffic website to see most up to date road closures.

Feel free to stop at open businesses along the way to show them your support, otherwise please stay in your car, stay on the road and get to your destination.

Hot spots may remain within the burnt area for some times. Burning trees or stumps inside this zone don't require a Triple Zero (000) call. If you see fire outside the burnt area or feel concerned, please call Triple Zero (000).
