Material Change of Use approved for cinema, bowling alley and rock-climbing facility in Idalia

Townsville City Council has given the go-ahead on the Material Change of Use application for a major development in Idalia.

The MCU is for a mixed-use entertainment development that will comprise of a rock-climbing facility, bowling alley and a cinema.

Council CEO Mike Chiodo approved the MCU after reviewing the application and the recommendations made by the officers which determined that the development was within the strategic intent of the Townsville City Plan.

It is expected the development will support up to 200 jobs during construction and a further 40 jobs once construction is complete.

The application is for a site located at the Fairfield Homemaker Centre.

Consideration of the MCU application was deferred to the Chief Executive Officer for a decision in the Full Council meeting on Tuesday after all councillors identified a conflict of interest.
