Mayor announces reopening of City playgrounds, bbqs, skate parks and more

Mayor Tom Tate today announced several City assets would reopen this Saturday in line with the easing of Queensland Government restrictions.

"We are getting back to business, but in a staged and safe way," Mayor Tate said.

The following will reopen or are resuming:

  • Playgrounds, gym equipment, and barbecues
  • Skate parks, outdoor basketball courts
  • Sports fields for groups of 10 or less
  • Park bookings (for up to 10 people)
  • Free tree scheme
  • Tourist parks for essential travellers
  • Parking meters will be switched on and normal enforcement will occur
  • Community Centres for essential services
  • Broadwater Parklands, is open except for the bouncy pillow

He said there was still work to be done to ensure a staged opening of Aquatic Centres, Libraries and Indoor Sports centres could occur.

"We need to look closely at these services and the best way to reopen them - for example I can see us opening Aquatic Centres to elite athletes first," he said.
