Yesterday's events in Bondi have been deeply upsetting, particularly for those marking Chanukah and for Jewish communities across Australia.
I extend my deepest condolences to those who were harmed, those who lost loved ones and my solidarity with Jewish residents in Hume and across Australia at this distressing time.
Hume is a diverse city where people of many faiths and backgrounds live, work and celebrate together. Acts of hatred and violence have no place in our community. We remain firmly committed to safety, respect and inclusion, and to ensuring that people can practise their faith without fear.
As a mark of respect and support, flags will be flown at half-mast across Council sites.
Council continues to work closely with the Hume Interfaith Network, which brings together local faith leaders and communities, to provide spaces for reflection, support and connection, and to reaffirm our shared commitment to peace, understanding and community cohesion.
Above all, I know our community will stand together in rejecting hatred and violence, and in reaffirming the values that unite us: compassion, respect and peace.
