Today, the Honourable David J. McGuinty, Minister of National Defence, met with Poland's Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, to discuss shared security priorities, defence industrial cooperation, and preparations for the upcoming North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit in Ankara, Turkey, in July 2026.
Minister McGuinty highlighted opportunities to strengthen bilateral defence industrial cooperation, including collaboration under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) initiative, potential joint projects involving emerging defence technologies, and discussions regarding the establishment of ammunition production capacity in Canada. The Ministers signed a Letter of Intent and agreed to pursue opportunities for greater cooperation between Canadian and Polish defence industries.
Minister McGuinty welcomed Poland's participation in Canada's Leading Defence, Security, and Emerging Technologies event and underscored Canada's role as Lead Nation for the 2026 International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce, Poland.
The Ministers exchanged views on support for Ukraine, regional security developments, and the importance of continued transatlantic unity and Allied coordination. They also discussed priorities for the upcoming NATO Summit, including collective defence investments, NATO force posture, and critical infrastructure cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advancing Canada-Poland defence cooperation and strengthening Allied security and resilience.
