Melbourne’s North and West make move to become small business friendly

Victorian Small Business Commission

Local small businesses in City of Melton and Hume City will be getting a lot more support, with the local councils signing up to the Small Business Friendly Council initiative.

Signing up means the councils are committing to a range of important measures including:
  • working towards quicker permit approvals
  • paying small businesses within 30 days
  • supporting local business networks to get started and grow
  • working with small businesses throughout disruptive infrastructure works.
Commissioner Judy O’Connell visited Melbourne’s North and West yesterday for meetings with Hume City’s Mayor Cr Carly Moore and CEO Domenic Isola, and with City of Melton’s Mayor Cr Lara Carli, where they signed the initiative’s Charter outlining these commitments.
The Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) is rolling out this initiative to respond to real issues small business owners face, making it easier for them to start and run their businesses.
There are more than 26,000 businesses in City of Melton and Hume City that stand to benefit from the councils’ pledge, impacting industries including construction, manufacturing and retail trade.
With 31 councils now having pledged to become small business friendly and provide local businesses with the help they need to do business, the VSBC encourages other councils to follow their lead.
