Police have arrested three people following a police pursuit in the Lake Macquarie area yesterday, NSW Police say.
About 10.30am yesterday police attached to the Lake Macquarie Target Action Group were in Close Street, Wallsend, when they saw a silver Holden Commodore.
Checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen during a break and enter at Merewether last week.
The car accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated, but was terminated on Lake Road, Glendale.
Police then received a number of calls reporting that the vehicle was driving on a pedestrian walkway through bushland.
Officers attended and located the car abandoned on a fire trail in the Edgeworth area.
A search was conducted with the assistance of the Dog Unit, and three people were arrested in Neilson Street, Edgeworth.
The trio were taken to Belmont Police Station where they were charged.
A 26-year-old man was charged with police pursuit-not stop-drive recklessly (Skye’s Law), drive manner dangerous, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, be carried on conveyance without consent of owner, dishonestly obtain property by deception and two counts of entering inclosed lands without a lawful excuse.
He appeared before Newcastle Local Court yesterday, where bail was refused. He is due to re-appear in the same court on 29 June 2017.
A 19-year-old man was charged with being carried in a conveyance taken without consent of the owner, and was conditionally bailed to appear before Belmont Local Court on 21 June 2017.
A 17-year-old boy also in the car will be dealt with under the Young Offender’s Act for the same offence.
Investigators believe the stolen vehicle may have also been used in a number of fail to pay incidents at service stations and inquiries continue.
