Midnight Madness On Monash

Nunawading Highway Patrol officers have impounded an allegedly suspended P-plater's vehicle after it was detected at more than double the speed limit on the Monash Freeway in Dandenong North this morning.

Officers were patrolling the freeway outbound near Stud Road when they spotted the Volkswagen Golf travelling at a fast rate of speed about 12.40am.

It will be alleged the unregistered car was detected at 220km/h in the 100km/h zone.

Police intercepted the vehicle and spoke to the driver who allegedly produced a suspended probationary license.

The 20-year-old Hallam man is expected to be charged on summons with several traffic offences including drive whilst suspended, drive probationary-prohibited vehicle, drive unregistered motor vehicle, fail to display P plates, drive speed dangerous and drive manner dangerous.

The Volkswagen was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1091.90.
