The Finocchiaro CLP Government is once again backing the lifestyle Territorians love - one that attracts fishers and adventurers from across the nation - with the launch of Season 11 of Million Dollar Fish.

Now, 11 red-tagged barramundi worth up to $1 million each are swimming in the Top End's world-class waterways. There's never been a better time to explore the Territory.

Acting Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Gerard Maley, said Million Dollar Fish is more than a fishing competition - it boosts tourism, supports local jobs, and showcases the Territory as a must-visit destination.

"The Northern Territory is the only place in Australia where you can cast a line and catch a million-dollar fish," Mr Maley said.

"Every season brings new visitors, increased local spending, and fantastic engagement with our tourism and fishing industries. Last season alone saw more than 62,000 registrations, with $210,000 in prize money awarded to 17 lucky winners."

This year, one newly tagged barramundi joins the existing million-dollar fish from previous seasons, giving anglers eleven chances to reel in the ultimate catch.

If no million-dollar fish is caught during the competition, the prize will remain active year-round, but only registered Season 11 participants can claim it. Once one of these million-dollar fish is caught, the remaining tagged fish revert to a $10,000 value, ensuring the excitement lasts throughout the season.

Adding to the thrill, one hundred additional red-tagged barramundi, each worth $10,000, have also been released into key fishing locations across the Top End. It's a great incentive to get outdoors, support local tourism, and enjoy the lifestyle that makes the Territory so unique.

SportsBet Head of Operations NT, Thijs Bors, said Season 11 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet, with plenty of chances to win both on and off the water.

"With so many chances to win both on and off the water and as always, the chance to reel in that ultimate million-dollar catch. We're proud to once again back a competition that brings so much excitement to the Territory and beyond.

"There's nothing quite like the moment when you hook a red-tagged barra - it could change someone's life in an instant. Make sure you're registered, pack your rods, and head to the Top End for your shot at becoming our next Million Dollar Fish winner."

Surf Life Saving Northern Territory General Manager, Sarah Fisher, said the organisation is proud to partner with Million Dollar Fish, supporting a program that encourages safe enjoyment of the Territory's waterways while also delivering vital funding for community safety initiatives.

"This partnership helps us continue our mission of keeping Territorians and visitors safe in, on and around the water," she said.

By registering, participants can win monthly prizes like flight vouchers, fishing gear, and luxury getaways - some without even picking up a rod.

This season also introduces the Reel of Fortune, offering bonus cash prizes like $30,000 for the biggest $10,000 barra and a $15,000 boost for first-time participants who land a tagged fish.

Million Dollar Fish Season 11 runs from 1 October 2025 through to 31 March 2026. Registration is free and open now.
