Minister O'Regan concludes productive two-day national summit with Veterans and stakeholder groups

From: Veterans Affairs Canada

Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, issued the following statement today on the national Stakeholder Summit:

"The national summit is an important opportunity for Veterans Affairs Canada to hear from Veterans, Veterans' organizations, advisory group members and other stakeholder groups.

"This summit builds on what we have learned at the more than 40 regional summits and town halls we've held across the country this year. Our stakeholders' knowledge and insights are invaluable and we appreciate all those who have shared their experiences, insights and passion as we strive to improve the lives of the Veteran community.

"The two days focused on military transition to post-service life, Pension for Life implementation plans, our new programs and services, homelessness and mental health research, amongst other topics. There was also dedicated time for two-way open dialogue to address Veterans' issues and to discuss more efficient ways to better serve Veterans and their families.

"With the Pension for Life benefits coming into force on April 1, 2019, we are addressing concerns made by the Veteran and military communities by allowing those with a service-related injury or illness to determine the best form of compensation that works for them and their families.

"We know there is more work to be done but by listening to Veterans, their families and stakeholders through these summits and town halls, I am confident that we will get there together."
