Today, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, met with Lê Mạnh Hùng, Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade, in Ottawa, Ontario.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed the strong and growing Canada-Vietnam trade and investment relationship, noting that Canadian merchandise exports to Vietnam increased by 30.2% in 2025. They also spoke about opportunities to deepen commercial cooperation in key sectors, such as energy, aerospace, agriculture and agri-food.
Minister Sidhu thanked Minister Hùng for Vietnam's support in advancing discussions toward an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-Canada free trade agreement, with the goal of concluding negotiations in 2026.
Minister Sidhu also expressed Canada's appreciation for Vietnam's leadership as Chair of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and conveyed that he looks forward to participating in the November CPTPP Commission meeting, which will include the second CPTPP-EU Trade and Investment Dialogue.
