Today, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, spoke with Chris Bryant, Minister of State (Minister for Trade) of the United Kingdom.
Minister Sidhu highlighted the tabling of the Protocol on the Accession of the United Kingdom to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in Canada's Parliament last month, as well as the introduction of its implementing legislation in the House of Commons yesterday. These developments mark a significant step toward bringing the United Kingdom's accession into force for Canada and reinforcing the two countries' shared interest in rules-based trade.
Building on the commitment by Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Starmer to deepen the longstanding trade relationship between Canada and the United Kingdom, Minister Sidhu and Minister Bryant discussed the ongoing work of the Canada-United Kingdom Economic and Trade Working Group. The ministers agreed to continue the close cooperation between the two countries to further strengthen bilateral trade and investment.
