Missed opportunity in Cabinet reshuffle

Tasmanian Labor

Peter Gutwein's first ministry is a missed opportunity to change the direction of a bitterly divided government that has lost its way.

Labor Leader, Rebecca White, said the mid-term reshuffle was a chance to send a signal that the Liberal Government was responding to the needs of Tasmanians.

"After stating the Government needed to do better on key issues like housing and health he has changed nothing and left the portfolios with the same Ministers," Ms White said

"Today's reshuffle is clearly designed to give Peter Gutwein's fractured government the appearance of stability rather than improving the lives of Tasmanians.

"It ignores underperformers and throws token rewards to Peter Gutwein's supporters in the leadership contest.

"It is also clear that Mr Gutwein wants to keep Michael Ferguson busy.

"Peter Gutwein knows this will be a horror budget and he wants to make sure his leadership rival shares the blame when Tasmanians feel the pain."

Ms White said the chaos and division in the Liberal Party stood in stark contrast to the stability and unity of her Labor team.

"It is just six months since the last Liberal reshuffle - that is hardly a sign of stable government.

"I am fortunate to lead a team of passionate and capable people who are committed to creating a better, fairer Tasmania."
