Missing swimmer feared drowned in Western Sydney

A search will resume for a missing swimmer feared drowned at a local swimming hole in Western Sydney today, NSW Police say.

About 3.30pm today a man was swimming with a number of friends in the Nepean River within the Bents Basin State Conservation Area, in Greendale.

Not long after the group entered the water the 25-year-old Punchbowl man disappeared.

The group got out of the water and commenced a search however he was unable to be located.

A ranger for the National Parks and Wildlife Service was notified and assisted with the search without success.

Police from Green Valley Local Area Command were called and a full scale search was commenced with the assistance of volunteers from the State Emergency Services.

The search was suspended about 10.15pm and will commence again about 8am tomorrow with the assistance of Police Divers.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
