Moira communities celebrate International Women's Day

People from across the shire will come together to celebrate the achievements of women within our community as part of International Women's Day.

Deputy Mayor Julie Brooks said International Women's Day was an opportunity to recognise the invaluable contributions women make to all aspects of life in Moira Shire.

"Held in conjunction with the CWA, there are multiple events across the shire to attend over the next two weeks with delicious breakfasts, morning teas and lunches on offer as well as special guest speakers and activities to participate in," Cr Brooks said.

"We are fortunate to have so many active and committed women here within Moira.

"International Women's Day is a chance to acknowledge and celebrate these contributions.

"Importantly, these events are also an opportunity to encourage greater levels of equity and diversity both within our community and in positions of power.

"The global UN Women theme for International Women's Day 2021 is Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.

"This theme celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future.

"Limited seats are available to ensure Covid guidelines are met and each event will comply with current Covid restrictions in accordance with government guidelines."
