The latest figures have revealed that unemployment in the Barker electorate has fallen significantly over the past year.
Minister for Jobs and Industrial Relations, the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, welcomed the news that unemployment in the Barker electorate has fallen from 4.9% to 4.0% over the past 12 months.
"The Coalition Government’s plan for a stronger economy is working, with more Australians now in work than ever before," Minister O’Dwyer said.
"Since the Government came to office in 2013, a total of 1,183,800 jobs have been created."
Federal Member for Barker, Tony Pasin MP, visited Bridgestone in Nuriootpa today to meet Dylan, who got a job after completing an internship under the Government’s Youth Jobs PaTH program.
"The Coalition Government is focused on giving young people the skills and experience they need so they can show employers they are ready to work. It’s helping employers take a chance on young employees they might otherwise not have considered hiring," Mr Pasin said.
Dylan said "Once I finally jumped on the tools and did my first truck by myself I was pretty proud of it. After my 12-week internship they offered me a job here and I was ecstatic, I couldn’t stop smiling".
Bridgestone’s national HR manager, Sarah Duffield, said the Youth Jobs PaTH program had helped connect the business with enthusiastic young people who were looking to enter the jobs market.
"The benefits to Bridgestone are getting candidates that want to work, are really motivated, interested, and they do have that passion that we're looking for," Ms Duffield said.
Minister O’Dwyer said Youth Jobs PaTH was helping young Australians to improve their job readiness, gain valuable work experience and get a job.
"The Government is committed to getting more young people off welfare and into work. A record 100,000 young Australians secured work last financial year," Minister O’Dwyer concluded.
