More than $1 million in cannabis seized; man charged, NSW

Police have charged a man after seizing cannabis plants worth more than $1 million in Sydney’s north-west today, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Tassie-18 was formed by officers from North West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad to investigate the cultivation of cannabis in Sydney’s north-west area.

Following inquiries, strike force investigators executed a search warrant in Castle Hill Road, near Old Northern Road, at Castle Hill about 7.30am (Wednesday 18 July 2018).

Police seized 346 cannabis plants with an estimated potential street value of more than $1 million, and hydroponic equipment.

A 21-year-old man was arrested and taken to Castle Hill Police Station where he was charged with large commercial cultivation of prohibited plant, and use/consume/waste electricity without authority.

The Malaysian National was refused bail and is due to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 19 July 2018).
