More than 350 infringements issued, NSW

More than 350 infringements have been issued as part of a one-day operation targeting cyclist and pedestrian compliance within the Sydney CBD and surrounding suburbs today, NSW Police say.

Operation Pedro, involving officers from the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command, along with officers from Police Area Commands in the Central Metropolitan Region, commenced the operation at 6am (Monday 27 August 2018).

Traffic & Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy, said the operation was established to raise awareness about road safety.

"We have been conducting Operation Pedro since 2014 as a way of educating the community about the importance of all road users doing the right thing," Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.

"This should come as a reminder for everyone to take personal responsibility for their actions on the road.

"City traffic is full of many challenges and distractions for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, so we want to do everything possible to ensure that we reduce road trauma."

During the operation, the following infringements were issued:

Cyclists disobey traffic control lights – 37

Cyclists ride on footpath – 25

Cyclists not wear helmet – 50

Cyclists other offences – 36

Pedestrian offences – 94

Other traffic offences – 62
