Motor Vehicle Burglaries Committed In Hobart Suburbs, TAS

Between the evening of 15 January and the early morning of 16 January, Tasmania Police received eleven reports of motor vehicle burglaries in the Sandy Bay, West Hobart, North Hobart and Mt Stuart areas, Tasmania Police say.

Police arrested and charged a 21 year old man, a 38 year old woman, and a 22 year old man with the offences (all bailed to appear at a later date).

The 21 year old man was charged with nine of the eleven offences alone.

Of concern, those responsible for the burglaries stated to police that all of the vehicles entered were left unlocked by the owners and did not require any form of forced entry.

Also of concern, valuable property including laptop computers, mobile phones, money, credit cards and handbags were left overnight in unlocked vehicles in public view.

"This is a timely reminder for motorists to always secure their vehicle and remove valuables from within," said Detective Acting Inspector Ian Mathewson.

Members of the public can report suspicious activity around motor vehicles by calling Crime Stoppers.
