Motorcycle passenger dies after being hit by tree branch near Tumut, NSW

A female motorcycle passenger died after being hit by a falling tree branch near Tumut this afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 3.10pm (Saturday 28 April 2018) a 57-year-old man was riding a motorcycle on the Snowy Mountains Highway, with a 62-year-old woman as a pillion passenger, when a falling tree branch struck the vehicle.

The female passenger died at the scene.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Tumut District Hospital, where he will undergo mandatory testing.

Officers from the Riverina Police District established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

A report will now be prepared for the Coroner.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
