Motorcycle rider dies in collision at Dubbo

A man has died after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in the state's west overnight.

Just before 9pm (Tuesday 31 December 2019), emergency services were called to the Mitchell Highway in Maryvale, just north of Wellington near Dubbo, following reports of a crash between a motorcycle and utility vehicle.

The rider of the motorcycle, believed to be a man aged in his 20s, died at the scene.

The male driver of the utility, and a female passenger, sustained a number of injuries and were airlifted to Orange Base Hospital.

The utility caught fire and was extinguished by NSW Rural Fire Service.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District established a crime scene and the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Delays are expected with the Mitchell Highway closed in both directions and diversions are in place. Traffic is being directed from the townships of Geurie and Wellington towards Cobbora Road.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
