Motorcyclist critically injured in East Ballina

A motorcyclist has been critically injured following a crash on the state’s north coast today, NSW Police say.

Just after 1.45pm today, emergency services were called to Shelly Beach, East Ballina, following reports of a crash between a northbound van and a southbound motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider, a 47-year-old woman, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transferred to the Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition with numerous serious injuries.

The driver of the van, a 29-year-old woman, who is an Italian National, was not injured. She was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

She was subsequently arrested and taken to Ballina Police Station where she was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Ballina Local Court on February 9 2017.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
