Motorists detected speeding in Lyell Highway roadworks, TAS

A member of Southern Road and Public Orders Services has issued nine (9) speeding infringements at a roadworks site on the Lyell Highway, Hamilton today, Tasmania Police say.

The infringements were detected over a short period of 90 minutes.

Two drivers were detected in excess of 90 kph in the reduced 60 kph zone – the highest speed being 92 kph.

"This is a disappointing result having regard to the recent road safety campaign linked to roadworks sites," said Sgt Terry McCulloch.

"Not only is this behaviour potentially dangerous to the roadworks and other road users, it often causes damage to the roadworks and extends work periods in those areas.

"Motorists are reminded to always obey speed limits in roadworks sites – it’s for their safety and the safety of road workers."
