Multi-agency tow truck and scrap metal operation - Fairfield City PAC

A multi-agency operation was conducted at scrap metal yards in the Fairfield area last week.

Between 8am and 2pm on Friday 8 November 2019, officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command, assisted by Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Roads and Maritime Services, and NSW Fair Trading – Tow Truck Investigations Unit, conducted an operation to detect stolen/re-birthed vehicles at scrap metal yards in Yennora, Fairfield East and Old Guildford.

The operation also targeted tow trucks, motor vehicle repairers, dealers, recyclers, wrecking yards and scrap metal dealers operating in the local area.

The six-hour operation resulted in over 18 tow truck/heavy vehicle notices being issued including one major, 40 infringement notices for various minor offences, 39 random drug tests were conducted, and one stolen motor vehicle was recovered.

Ten business inspections were also conducted with penalty notices to be issued following further investigations.

Similar operations will be conducted in the near future.
