Multiple arrests following shop thefts

Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested nine people following a series of thefts from shops in the Yarra area, Victoria Police say.

It is alleged the offenders were part of a syndicate stealing from shops then re-selling the goods to different shops in the area.

Warrants were executed in Victoria Street Richmond today.

A 61-year-old Richmond man has been charged with handle stolen goods and possess the proceeds of crime.

A 67-year-old Abbotsford man has been charged with handle stolen goods and possess the proceeds of crime.

A 70-year-old Doncaster East man has been charged with handle stolen goods and possess the proceeds of crime.

A 69-year-old Richmond man has been charged with handle stolen goods and possess the proceeds of crime.

The men have been bailed to appear in court at a later date.

A 25-year-old West Melbourne man has been charged with possess the proceeds of crime and bailed to appear in court next year.

A 39-year-old West Melbourne man has been charged with theft, handle stolen goods and obtain property by deception and remanded in custody.

A 34-year-old Coburg man has been charged with theft and has appeared before Melbourne Magistrates Court today.

A 40-year-old North Melbourne man remains in custody and is being interviewed.

A 34-year-old Abbotsford man was arrested on outstanding warrants and bailed to court at a later date.

Police will continue to work on thefts in the Yarra area and any location where stolen items are being sold or purchased.
