Murder, attempted murder charges laid over stabbings - Merrylands

Detectives have laid charges after a man was fatally stabbed and another was seriously injured at Merrylands earlier today.

About 12.20am (Monday 24 August 2020), emergency services were called to a home on Bertha Street following reports a 49-year-old man had been stabbed in the neck.

Shortly after, about 12.40am, emergency services received reports a second man, aged 40, had been stabbed in the neck at a home on Uren Place.

Both men were taken to Westmead Hospital, however, the younger man died.

The older man remains in a serious but stable condition.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command established two crime scenes which have been examined by forensic officers.

A search of the surrounding area was conducted with assistance from PolAir and the Dog Unit, and a 26-year-old man was arrested on Bird Avenue, Guildford, about 2am.

He was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with murder and attempted murder.

The Merrylands man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 25 August 2020).

The three men are known to each other.
