Murder charge at Home Hill, QLD

Police have charged a 29-year-old man following a homicide investigation at Home Hill, Queensland Police say.

He was remanded in custody following the death of 21-year-old British woman Mia Ayliffe Chung at a back packer’s hostel in Home Hill on the evening of August 23.

A 30-year-old British man has also been taken to hospital where he remains with critical head injuries, and a 46-year-old local man sustained non-life threatening injuries.

It will be alleged that as the man was being transported from the hospital to the watch house around 5.45pm, he assaulted two officers and resisted violently and police have had to use a taser and capsicum spray on the man.

Police have charged a 29-year-old man with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of serious animal cruelty and twelve counts of serious assault.

He is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow.
