Murder charge laid over 2014 shooting at Petersham, NSW

A man has been charged with murder following investigations into the 2014 shooting death of Bill Panagakos in Sydney’s Inner West, NSW Police say.

About 11.10pm on Wednesday 5 March 2014, police and emergency services were called to Railway Street, Petersham, following reports of a shooting.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated Mr Panagakos, aged 45, who was located on the footpath suffering a gunshot wound, but he died at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing two men running from the area, and despite an extensive search, no one was located.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Marrickville Local Area Command established Strike Force Arrandale to investigate the murder.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 36-year-old man at Auburn Police Station about 7.30pm today.

He was charged with murder and refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court tomorrow.

Investigations under Strike Force Arrandale are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Arrandale investigators to call Crime Stoppers.
