The City of Launceston's much-loved Music in the Park season is underway, with City Park coming alive to the sounds of local musicians on Sunday afternoons throughout summer.
Now in its 18th year, Music in the Park is a free concert series held at the City Park Rotunda from 12.30pm to 2.30pm on Sundays, showcasing live performances by some of Northern Tasmania's most talented local artists. The event will not be held on the weekend of Festivale (29-31 January).
Originally scheduled to conclude at the end of February, the season has now been extended into March, with five performances added following an overwhelming response to a call for expressions of interest from local acts.
City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said Music in the Park remained a highlight of the city's events calendar and a great opportunity for the community to come together.
"Music in the Park is all about enjoying great live music in one of Launceston's most beautiful settings, and best of all, it's completely free," Mayor Garwood said.
"I can't wait to see the community come out in force again this year. Bring a seat or a picnic blanket, pack some lunch and settle in for a wonderful afternoon enjoying our diverse local talent. Whether your taste is big bands, pop covers, classical or jazz, Music in the Park offers something for everyone, with performances that span genres and generations."
The 2026 season kicked off with a relaxed crowd enjoying the sophisticated sounds of the Blossom Quintet on 4 January, followed by the stirring pipes and brass of the West Tamar Municipal Band and St Andrews Caledonian Pipe Band last weekend.
