Celebrate the world's oldest continuous culture with Townsville Citylibraries this National NAIDOC Week.
NAIDOC 2025 is themed The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy and to delve into the theme, Citylibraries is welcoming residents and visitors to learn about the cultures and histories of First Nations people through its Indigenous Australians Collection.
The collection features books, videos and resources on Townsville's local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the Indigenous Australians Collection at Citylibraries was just one way Council worked to recognise the history, culture and achievements of North Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents.
"Townsville is home to many First Nations people, past and present, who have deep histories related to the Country our city is built on. It's incredibly important as a Council that we provide opportunities for residents and visitors to learn these histories and recognise the cultures and achievements of First Nations people in North Queensland," Cr Greaney said.
"I would encourage anyone who wants to learn more about First Nations cultures, history and achievements to make the most of our collection by visiting their Citylibraries branch.
"Activities will include a First Nations Family Craft and Yarn to make a NAIDOC Week shirt, A Journey Down Memory Lane to explore archival footage and history news stories and Song Time in the Park."
